SkillForge VR explores how learners can enter a virtual workshop, ask for guidance and practise technical activities through a more conversational interface. The prototype addresses a practical interaction problem: helping someone focus on the training activity while learning to use VR.
Design & technical leadership
I led the prototype's design and development, building workshop scenarios, a conversational MetaHuman tutor and gamification in Unreal Engine 5 with Convai. We tested on Meta Quest 3 and used early task-based trials to explore voice navigation and adaptive guidance.
Development approach
I brought workshop flow, the tutor avatar and progression mechanics into a single Unreal Engine experience. Spoken interaction was central to selecting activities and moving through the workshop. The MetaHuman tutor, connected through Convai, provided a conversational point of contact within that environment.
Development combined the learning sequence with the interaction design: what the learner encounters, how guidance is delivered and how progress is represented. Early task-based trials on Meta Quest 3 informed the workshop guidance and voice interactions. The emphasis was an approachable prototype that could demonstrate the training concept.
Outcome
The Innov8 Simulation Team won first place in the 2025 IEEE Metaverse Grand Challenge for Simulation-Based Learning. The result was a working vocational-training prototype bringing virtual workshop activities, conversational guidance and progression mechanics into one experience.
